Edison, NJ –
Wagner College's junior goalie Kelsey Rodgers (Anaheim Hills, CA/Fullerton JC) was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, as voted by the league's head coaches. Rodgers, who earned Defensive Player of the Week twice in her first season as a Seahawk, shared the honor with Marist College's goalie Jessica Getchius.

Rodgers anchored Wagner's top ranked defense, which allowed league-best 7.41 goals per game. In 26 starts in net, Rodgers boasted a 61.2% save percentage while allowing 7.00 goals per contest. Her efforts led the Seahawks to an 8-2 conference record and a share of the 2009 MAAC Regular Season Championship.

Rodgers also claimed a spot on the All-MAAC First Team with senior Nicole Maichrowicz (Temple City, CA/Temple City). Two other Seahawks, sophomore Natalie Pyrz (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) and freshman Sara Olguin (Whittier, CA/Sonora), earned All-MAAC Second Team honors.

Seven of the 31 student-athletes named to the 2009 MAAC Women's Water Polo All-Academic Team are from Wagner College.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale. Iona College led all schools with nine student-athletes making the team, followed by Wagner College's seven student-athletes. Five athletes earned spots of the team representing Marist College, and, and four for St. Francis (N.Y.) College. Siena College and Villanova University each had three student-athletes on the team.

Among the honorees for the Seahawks were sophomores Dana DeCinque (Collegeville, PA/The Hill School), Carina Giles (Mohton, PA/Mifflin), Pyrz, Kristen Spector (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley), and Laura vanderBent (Shillington, PA/Mifflin). Rodgers, a junior, and senior Alex Tomlinson (Telford, PA/Souderton) were also named to the prestigious list.
