West Windsor, NJ - The No. 9 Wagner tennis team fell to No. 8 Robert Morris by a 4-0 count in the opening round of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Women's Tennis Tournament at the Mercer County Tennis Center. The Seahawks (2-14) will now play No. 10 St. Francis (NY) at approximately 2:00 pm for ninth place while the Colonials (3-17) move on to play No. 1 Quinnipiac.
Robert Morris won the doubles' point winning at No. 2 and No. 3. Ekaterina Rudneva and Maria Olausson defeated freshman
Britta Olsen (Hallowell, ME / Hall-Dale) and
Svetlana Chirokikh (Rochester, NY / Brighton) at No. 2 doubles 8-2 while Gwen Dalphon and Gwen Himmel were victorious over sophomore
Joanna Ciavarella (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbone Academy) and freshman
Allison Argust (East Greenbush, NY / Averill Park) at No. 3 doubles by an 8-4 count.
In singles play, Rudneva bested senior
Emily Boyd 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. At fourth singles, Olausson handed Chirokikh a 6-1, 6-0 setback. Dalphon won at No. 6 singles over Argust in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Senior
Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) was winning her match at No. 1 singles 6-2, 3-4 when play was halted.Ciavarella was also up by a score of 6-3, 3-1.
