Jersey City, NJ – Saint Peter's used a 16-4 run to start the second half before holding off a frantic Wagner rally en route to a 55-50 victory over the Green & White in non-conference action at the Yanitelli Center. The Seahawks fall to 2-8 with their fifth-straight loss while the Peahens improve to 3-6.

Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) and senior
Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) each scored 10 points, leading the way for Wagner. Mahoney, who was making her first Seahawk appearance since transferring from Fordham a year ago, also grabbed five rebounds in a team-best 34 minutes of action.
Down 45-38 with 7:43 remaining, the Green & White used an 8-2 spurt over the next 4:23 to get within one at 47-46 with 3:20 to play as Wagner knocked down a perfect 6-of-6 from the line. After Charlene Riddick split a pair from the line to push the lead out to 48-46, Wagner had two possessions to tie the score but came up empty each time. Adenike Oyesile stretched the lead out to four at 50-46 with a lay-up at the 1:48 mark. The Seahawks would cut it to two on two more occasions but get no closer, falling 55-50.
For the game, Wagner shot 38.0 percent (19-50) from the floor, but just 28.0 percent (7-25) after halftime. Saint Peter's hit on 29.0 percent (18-62) but forced 19 Seahawk turnovers, leading to an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers. The Peahens also won the battle of the boards by a 41-39 count, including 18-9 on the offensive end.
The Green & White were outstanding from the charity stripe hitting on 11-of-12 (91.7 %).
Junior
Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds with eight points while classmate Sha'Ron Harrison (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) (8 points, 8 rebounds) and sophomore
Kelly Clark (Neptune, NJ / St. Rose) (7 points, 7 rebounds) also had solid outings.
Riddick's game-high 14 points with nine rebounds paced three Peahens in double-figures.
The Green & White claimed a 28-26 halftime lead in a see-saw first half that saw eight ties and five lead changes. The Seahawks shot 48.0 percent (12-25) as seven different players scored, led by Clark's seven points and five rebounds.
Wagner returns to action on Tuesday, December 29 when the Seahawks square off with Lehigh at 4:30 pm in the first game of the Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem, PA.
