Nick Doscher Named NEC Offensive Player of the Week; Also Named Rookie of the Week for Fifth Time

Somerset, NJ – Freshman QB Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic) was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week and, for the fifth time this was season, tabbed NEC Rookie of the Week for his efforts in leading Wagner (6-3, 5-1) to its fourth straight win, a 32-27 victory over Central Connecticut St. on Saturday.

Doscher produced more than 300 yards of total offense for the third time in four weeks to power Wagner into first place in the NEC. The 6-1, 220-pound Doscher was responsible for all five of Wagner's touchdowns in a 32-27 comeback victory that extended the Seahawks' win streak to four and lifted them into a first-place tie in the NEC standings.

After the Blue Devils scored twice to claim a 27-20 lead in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, Doscher answered back by engineering a pair of touchdown drives within the final 10:15. First, he capped a six-play, 53-yard drive by rushing into the end zone from two yards out to cut the deficit to one.

The rookie signal caller fumbled the snap on the ensuing extra point, but would do his best to make up for it. With 1:35 remaining on the clock and the ball at Wagner's 37-yard line, Doscher rushed for 24 yards and passed for another 39 in guiding his Seahawks to the game-winning score. Doscher, who finished 11-of-16 passing for 174 yards and three TDs, completed the comeback with a 15-yard scoring strike to Lon Woods. He added another 130 yards and two scores on 15 rushes.

Doscher's honors mark the 11th time this season a Seahawk has picked up a weekly honor from the NEC this season. Junior DB Frantz Placide (Miami, FL/ Archbishop Curley Notre Dame) has been tabbed Special Teams Player of the Week three time, freshman RB Dominique Wiliams (Bridgeton, NJ/Milford) has picked up one NEC Rookie of the Week Award, while junior DB Chaz Legette (Syracuse, NY/ Nottingham) has earned one NEC Defensive Player of the Week honor.

Wagner continues its quest for its first-ever Northeast Conference championship at Robert Morris on Sat., Nov. 14 at Noon. If the Seahawks get by Robert Morris and Albany, which is the regular season finale at home on Sat., Nov. 21, Wagner will claim the league title outright.
