ten Island, NY – Stony Brook broke a 16-16 tie with a 23-0 run to take a commanding 39-16 first half lead en route to a 72-48 victory over Wagner. With the win, the Seawolves improve to 3-0 on the season while Wagner falls to 0-2.
Sophomore guard
Tyler Murray (Ontario, CA/Eastern Commerce) hit a three-point jumper to tie the game at 16-16 with 12:15 left in the opening half. The Seahawks then endured a 5:54 dry spell, before senior forward
Doug Elwell (Staten Island, NY/ Monsignor Farrell) hit a three pointer with 6:21 to go in the half to cut the deficit to 39-19.
Muhammad El-Amin scored all 11 of his points in the opening half as the Seawolves built a 52-30 lead at the intermission. Stony Brook shot a sizzling 58 percent from the field in the opening half while Wagner shot 32 percent.
In the second half, Wagner opened with a 16-10 spurt to draw to within 62-46 with 7:11 left on a dunk by freshman forward
Josh Thompson (Richland, NJ/ St. Augustine Prep) to cut the deficit to 16 points but that is as close as the Seahawks would get.
Murray led Wagner with 13 points, tying his career high in the process. Chipping in with seven points apiece were Elwell, freshman guard
Ryan Conrad (Charlotte, NC/Providence Day), and senior center
Michael Orock (Hoboken, NJ/ Hoboken).
Bryan Dougher paced Stony Brook with 12 points while El-Amin amd
Chris Martin added 11 points apiece for the Seawolves.
The Seahawks are next in action on Tuesday, Nov. 24 when they travel to NJIT for a 7:00 pm. tip.
