Robert Morris Runs Past Wagner, 37-10

Senior WR Lon Woods
Moon Township, PA - Robert Morris erupted for 27 unanswered second-half points to break a 10-10 halftime tie in registering a 37-10 victory over Wagner. With the loss, the Seahawks saw their four-game winning streak come to a halt in falling to 6-4 overall, 5-2 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play. The Colonials, in winning their fourth straight game, improved to 4-6 on the season, 3-3 in NEC play.

Wagner can still win the NEC championship by defeating Albany next Saturday provided Central Connecticut St. (CCSU) loses its regular season finale at Saint Francis (PA) based on the Seahawks' head to head win over CCSU on Nov. 7. If CCSU defeats the Red Flash, the Blue Devils will be the NEC champions regardless of the outcome of the Wagner-Albany game.

As for today's game, Robert Morris QB Jeff Sinclair hit Sherrod Evers on a five-yard TD pass to put the Colonials up 7-0 in the first quarter. Wagner responded with an eight-play, 66-yard drive capped by a two-yard TD run by freshman QB Nick Doscher (Staten Island, NY/ Moore Catholic). A Garrett Clawson 36-yard field goal by RMU was matched by a Wagner 32-yard field goal off the foot of freshman David Lopez (Plantation, FL/ American Heritage), which capped a 14-play, 68-yard drive that was engineered by junior QB Tyler Newberry (Germantown, MD/ Mercersburg Academy), which made it 10-10 at the half.

In the second quarter, Newberry came in for Doscher who was dinged on a late hit along the sideline. Doscher returned to the game in the second half before being injured again. His status for next week's game vs. Albany is not known at this time.

The Colonials, meanwhile, broke the game open on a pair of Sinclair third quarter TD passes, the fist a 14-yard toss to Shadrae King and the second a 24-yarder to Tyler Digby which put the Colonials up by a commanding 24-10 lead. Robert Morris then tacked on two more field goals and a touchdown to win going away.

Junior RB Eric Foxworth (Delran, NJ/ Globe) was Wagner's leading ground-gainer with 79 yards on 15 carries while Doscher added 65 yards on 12 carries. Newberry, who played approximately half the game in Doscher's absence, completed 6-of-13 passes for 53 yards while Doscher was 5-of-10 through the air for 57 yards. Senior QB Adam Farnsworth (N. Ogden, Utah/Univ. of Iowa) saw his first action of the season and completed 3-of-5 passes for 30 yards. Senior WR Lon Woods (St. Petersburg, FL/ J.P. Taravella) was Wagner's leading receiver with four catches for 65 yards.

Sinclair was 15-of-27 passing for 197 yards and three TDs while RB Myles Russ gained 173 yards on just 19 carries for the Colonials.
