Philadelphia, PA – Wagner College junior DB
Chaz Legette (Syracuse, NY/ Nottingham), has been named the National Co-Defensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network for his efforts in Wagner's 49-28 Homecoming Day victory over Sacred Heart last Saturday.
The 6-1, 180-pound Legette intercepted two passes, returning one 21 yards for the game-winning touchdown and broke a 28-28 tie in the final seconds of the third quarter when he picked off two-time All-NEC quarterback Dale Fink and raced into the end zone. Legette added five tackles (four solo) and a pass break-up to his two takeaways. He prevented the Pioneers from scoring a touchdown during a second-quarter trip into the red zone. Legette's pass break-up on 3rd-and-5 forced Sacred Heart to bring on the field goal unit.
Legette shares this honor with Korey Lindsey of Southern Illinois, who had 12 tackles and two interceptions in a 27-8 win over Youngstown State.
Legette, who also earned by the Northeast Conference as its Co-Defensive Player of the Week, was named the winner of the Nick Lia Memorial trophy, emblematic of the Defensive MVP in Wagner's annual Homecoming Game.
