Women’s Soccer Clipped by Late Goal at Monmouth, 1-0

Senior Brooke Keany
West Long Branch, NJ- The Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a narrow 1-0 decision to Northeast Conference (NEC) rival Monmouth University this afternoon on The Great Lawn. The Seahawks allowed a late goal in the 87th minute of the game and were unable to find the equalizer in falling to 1-8-1 (0-2 NEC) on the season.

The game-winner came after Monmouth's (6-3-1, 1-0-1 NEC) Courtney Snyder carried the ball down the right side and found Alessandra DeTata in the middle of the field, netting a goal past Wagner goalkeeper Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield).

Sophomore Kaitlyn Llewellyn (Island Lake, IL/ Wauconda) was the only Seahawk that managed to fire a shot on goal, which was rejected by the Hawks' goalie Lia Fierro.

The Hawks outshot the Seahawks by a 15-3 margin. Schueschner finished with four saves, while her counterpart Fierro had one.

The Seahawks will be back in action Sunday, October 4th when they travel to Emmitsburg, MD to face Mount Saint Mary's University at 1:00 PM.
