Women’s Soccer Earns Draw against Robert Morris, 0-0

Junior Goalkeeper Sam Schueschner
Staten Island, NY- The Wagner College women's soccer team picked up a hard-fought 0-0 tie against Northeast Conference (NEC) rival Robert Morris University this afternoon at Wagner College Stadium. The Seahawks were unable to notch a goal after 110 minutes of action, but still earned their third shutout of the season and ended a three game losing streak.

The teams settled in to an extremely physical battle that featured a combined 28 shots, 30 fouls and three yellow cards. The Colonials (7-5-1, 3-1-1 NEC), currently tied for second in the conference standings, held the upper-hand in shots – besting the Seahawks 18-20. The Seahawks led in corner kicks 5-2.

Offensively, the Seahawks put constant pressure on the Colonials throughout the game. Freshman Monica Zurich (Montvale, NJ / Pascack Hills) led the Green & White with four shots, one on goal. Senior Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ / Paramus Catholic) was close behind with three shots, one on goal. Sophomore Terryn Marette (Chevy Chase, MD / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) also recorded a shot on goal.

The Seahawk defense did an outstanding job stymieing the Colonial attack and limiting RMU's scoring opportunities. Junior Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT / Brookfield) was strong in goal, posting eight saves for her seventh career shutout. RMU's Jessica Olin finished with three saves.

Wagner returns to action on Friday, October 16th when they travel to New Britain, CT to face NEC foe Central Connecticut State University. Start time is set for 3:00 PM.
