Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East), the Wagner Seahawks (0-1) dropped its season-opening match to Manhattan (2-1) by a 7-0 count at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
After dropping the first set 6-0, Frazza rallied to claim the second game 7-5 before falling 10-5 in the third-set tiebreaker at No. 1 singles against Lindsey Keller. At No. 3 singles, LeCureux won the first set 6-4 before Manhattan's Lindsey Spagnola tied it up with a hard-fought 7-5 win in the second game. LeCureux battled valiantly in the third-set tiebreaker but ultimately fell short by a 10-8 score.
At No. 2 singles, Hilary Valenzuela defeated senior
Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) 6-0, 6-0. Freshman
Britta Olsen (Hallowell, ME / Hall-Dale) also lost by the same count against Casey Conklin at No. 4 singles. At the five spot, Christine Krasinski handed sophomore
Joanna Ciavarella a 6-0, 6-0 defeat. Rounding out singles' play, Christina Ton was victorious over freshman
Sabrina DiLeo (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
Manhattan swept its way to the doubles' point, winning all three matches.
