Wagner Women’s Soccer Team Falls to NJIT, 4-2

Newark, NJ - Despite two goals from senior midfielder Diane Gantenhammer (South Farmingdale, NY/ Farmingdale), the Wagner College women's soccer team dropped a 4-2 decision to the Highlanders of New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) this evening at Lubetkin Field.
 
The Seahawks are now 1-2-1 on the season.
 
The Highlanders (1-5-0) were first to get on the board with a goal from an indirect kick by name Chalmers Pasiciel from 25 yards out in the 49th minute of the game.
 
Gantenhammer responded two minutes later by scoring off a corner kick from the right side of the field, tying the game 1-1. Gantenhammer was assisted by freshman Terryn Marette (Chevy Chase, MD/ Bethesda-Chevy Chase).
 
The Highlanders' offense broke the deadlock in the 74th minute. NJIT's offense used its momentum to notch two more goals, one from a header off a corner kick in the 83rd minute and another from inside the box at 87 minutes, to take a commanding 4-1 lead.
 
Gantenhammer then tallied Wagner's last goal in the final seconds of the game off a direct free kick. The senior captain now leads the team in goals scored for the season with three.
 
As for the score sheet, Wagner went shot-for-shot with NJIT recording 14 shots to the Highlanders' 15.
 
As for the Seahawks in goal, Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/ Satellite) worked the entire 90 minutes in the net, recording seven saves.
 
The Seahawks are next in action on Sunday when they host the Charleston Southern Bucs at 12 pm.
