Loretto PA- The Wagner College women's soccer team was blanked by the Saint Francis (PA) Red Flash by a score of 3-0 in a Northeast Conference (NEC) game this afternoon at Stokes soccer complex.
The Red Flash took control of the game late in the first half, scoring three goals within a four-minute span. Saint Francis' first goal came in the 41st minute when Alanna Vespa sent a corner kick over to Chelsea Traurig, who put the ball in the back of the net. The second Red Flash tally came from Rachael Seibert on a breakaway. The Red Flash solidified their victory with a third and final goal when Vespa knocked home a rebound from five yards out.
In the second half, the Seahawks' defense held the Red Flash in check, not letting them notch another goal. Statistically Saint Francis held a commanding 25-3 edge in shots. The Red Flash also led in corner kicks, 10-0.
In goal,
Sam Schueschner (Brookfield, CT/ Brookfield) went the entire 90 minutes, recording 10 saves. With today's loss, the Seahawks have been eliminated from the NEC playoff race.
Wagner (3-10-14, 1-5-1 NEC) returns to action on Friday, October 31 when the Seahawks host the Hawks of Monmouth University. Start time is set for 3:00 pm.
