Seahawks Lose in Overtime to Robert Morris 2-1

Brooke Keany
Moon Township, PA- The Wagner College women's soccer team lost a close battle to the Colonials of Robert Morris in a Northeast Conference game this afternoon at North Atlantic complex.

Robert Morris's Jessica Weary put the Colonials on the board first in the 36th minute when her shot from 20 yards out sailed over the head of Wagner goalie Leslie Reed (Indian Harbour Beach, FL/ Satellite) and into the net.

In the second half, both teams battled back-and-forth until Wagner's Brooke Keany (Rumson, NJ/ Rumson Fair-Haven) notched the equalizer in the 89th minute, capitalizing on a Colonial turnover deep in their own defensive end. Briana Vassallo (Saddle Brook, NJ/ Paramus Catholic) earned the assist when she hooked up with a wide open Keany on a crossing pass from the far post. This goal brought the game into overtime with the score tied 1-1.

With time winding down in the first overtime session, the Colonials earned a corner kick in the 99th minute. RMU's Daneen Stevenato scrambled after the ball and managed to squeeze the ball over the line just before Wagner's goal keeper could clear it out. This goal was enough for RMU (6-9-0, 2-4-0 NEC) to take home the win as the Seahawks record moves to 3-9-4, 1-4-1 NEC for the season.

In goal, Reed went the entire 99 minutes with seven saves.

As for the game, Robert Morris bested Wagner in the shots category 20-11. The Colonials also led in corner kicks, 8-2.

The Seahawks continue to travel this weekend as they face the Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA) Sunday October, 26. Start time is set for 2:00pm.
