Staten Island, NY – La Salle escaped from Wagner with a hard-fought 5-2 win over the Seahawks in non-conference tennis action at the Wagner Tennis Courts.
Senior
Brittany Frazza (West Caldwell, NJ / Morris Catholic) made it two wins in a row at No. 1 singles, posting an easy 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lauren Perry. Sophomore
Joanna Ciavarella (Brooklyn, NY / Fontbone Academy) claimed her first victory of the year with a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Pearl Wilkins at No. 5 singles.
Frazza also teamed with junior
Valerie LeCureux (Jamison, PA / Central Bucks East) for an 8-3 win over Perry and Christina Gomez at No. 1 doubles. However the Explorers won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles' point.
At No. 2 singles, senior
Emily Boyd (Stratham, NH / Exeter Area) and Gomez played a three-set marathon with Gomez coming out on top 3-6, 6-4, 10-8. Freshman
Britta Olsen (Hallowell, ME / Hall-Dale) was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, LeCureux won the first set 6-4 before Courtney Babo took the second 6-3. Babo then held off LeCureux 10-7 in the third-set tiebreaker to claim the win. Taylor Silverio defeated freshman
Sabrina DiLeo (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) 6-3, 6-0 at to wrap up singles' play.
