Freshman Nick Mascelli of the baseball team is the Wagner College Walsh Electrical Contracting Men’s Student-Athlete of the Month for April. Mascelli hit safely in 17 of Wagner’s 21 April games en route to batting a team-best .333 (27-of-81) with 12 runs, 10 walks and an impressive .426 OBP. The Garden State native began the month by singling and scoring the first Seahawk run in a 4-1 win over former Northeast Conference (NEC) rival Monmouth. Later that week he hit safely in all four games of NEC-opening series with LIU Brooklyn, batting .500 (7-for-14) with three runs and a pair of walks. After singling and scoring a run at nationally ranked Seton Hall, Mascelli notched a pair of hits in series victory vs. Fairleigh Dickinson. He then served as the catalyst for Wagner in its 13-7 rout over Saint Peter’s (4/17), going 3-for-6 with two runs. He then followed that up by going 5-for-10 (.500) with four walks in series victory over NJIT. Mascelli then became the first Seahawk player since the 2010 season to notch five hits in a game, finishing up 5-for-6 in Wagner’s 10-7 win over Rutgers. He then capped his month with a pair of hits at Central Connecticut. Mascelli is hitting a team-best .308 (17th NEC) while pacing the squad with 45 hits (t-9th NEC), 22 walks (4th NEC), 12 multi-hit games and a .416 OBP (6th NEC).
