One of a plethora of Seahawk hitters that helped propel Wagner to a first-place tie with LIU Brooklyn in the league standings, junior catcher Phil Capra continued his hot approach at the plate during the month of March. The North Salem, NY native was one of three Seahawks to hit over .300 for the month as the switch-hitting backstop led the way with a robust .361 average (26-for-72), which included four doubles and a team-best five home runs and 22 RBIs for the month. In the 19 games played during the month, Capra scored 23 runs, while posting a total OPS (on-base + slugging percentage), of 1.103, highlighted by a .625 slugging percentage. The former North Salem High School standout garnered Co-Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week honors back on March 12 only days after being named to the Johnny Bench Award Watch List for the second straight season. For the week of March 12, Capra recorded at least one hit in all five of Wagner’s games, totaling eight runs and had driven in nine RBIs. He homered three times, including round-trippers in the opener and finale of the Seahawks’ three-game road sweep of America East member, Stony Brook.
