Redshirt senior forward Mike Aaman (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan [URI) registered 15 points and nine rebounds as the Wagner men’s basketball team stunned No. 18 UConn 67-58 in its 2016-17 season opener. A force in the paint for the Green & White, and a key player in one of the biggest victories in program history, Aaman was particularly clutch down the stretch, assisting on a three-pointer by junior guard Corey Henson (Upper Marlboro, MD/DeMatha Catholic), before scoring six straight points himself in giving the Seahawks a 64-56 lead with 44 seconds left to play. The Hazlet, NJ native’s performance led him to being named Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week for the first time in his career as a Seahawk. Additionally, Aamon was tabbed College Sports Madness NEC Player of the Week as well as the Lou Henson Award National Player of the Week. For the month, the senior forward shot 52.4% from the field, averaging 11.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
