Former University at Albany four-year letterwinner Katherine Sweeney joined the Seahawk athletic family in August, 2016 as assistant women's lacrosse coach.
As an attacker for the Great Danes, Sweeney helped lead UAlbany to a record of 65-19 (.774) and to the America East Conference championship game in each of her four years, highlighted by an appearance in the 2015 NCAA Championships in her junior season. For her career, the Canton, NY native scored 48 points on 45 goals and three assists.
Sweeney's lacrosse background also includes a pair of coaching stints with the ADK Club Team and Battlax Camp, both of which are located in Albany, NY, where she she inspired and taught young players skill development and team concepts.
At Wagner, Sweeney will join a Seahawk program that claimed its first-ever Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship last season, which earned the Green & White a berth in the 2016 NCAA Championship.
"I am excited to welcome Katherine to Wagner College and to our lacrosse program!," said Rowan. "Her work ethic, strong lacrosse background, and ability to communicate effectively will make her a tremendous addition to our team. I believe Katherine will be a great mentor to our student-athletes and we look forward to getting started with the 2016-2017 campaign."
In addition to her playing and coaching experience, Sweeny also completed a pair of internships at UAlbany. In the summer/fall of 2015, Sweeney assisted the Great Danes' Athletics/Sports Media department and in the summer of 2016, she interned with the UAlbany Student Affairs Graphic Design department. In the spring of 2016, she completed an internsip in Graphic Design with Under Armour.
Sweeney graduated Cum Laude from UAlbany in May, earning a Bachelor's of Arts Degree while majoring in Fine Art with a minor in Communications. In addition to her coaching duties, Sweeney will be pursuing her MBA at Wagner.
