Jen Derevjanik, one of the top high school players in Staten Island history who went on to win a WNBA Championship with the Phoenix Mercury in 2007, came aboard at Wagner in June, 2011 and will enter her second season on staff in 2012-13.
Derevjanik, who was also a member of the Connecticut Sun teams that finished runner-up in the WNBA Finals in 2004 and 2005, enjoyed a stellar career at St. Peter’s High School where she averaged 20 points, eight assists, and six rebounds per game. She is the only three-time winner of the Jaques Award, given to the Staten Island Player of the Year.
Derevjanik earned USA Today All-American honorable mention accolades and was a three-time New York Post First-Team All-City selection, a two-time New York Times First-Team All-City honoree. She was named to the New York Daily News and Madison Square Garden All-City First Teams as a senior.
She finished career as the Island’s seventh all-time scorer with 1,588 career points, and with 655 assists and 420 steals. During her four years, she led the Eagles to a 95-13 record, including a 24-2 mark as a junior, winning Archdiocesan and Staten Island CHSAA titles each season. The Eagles never lost a game to another Staten Island opponent during her high school career and she was a three-time Staten Island Advance All-Star selection.
Following her spectacular high school career, Derevjanik enjoyed a stellar four-year career at George Mason University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 2004. While at George Mason, Derevjanik started a school record 116 consecutive games and is among the top five all-time in Mason’s history books in four categories, including third in both points (1,637) and assists (469).
She was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year in 2001. Derevjanik was also named to the 2004 Academic All-America Women’s Basketball District III University Division First Team and went on to earn conference All-Academic accolades for her efforts in the classroom.
Derevjanik was named to the Colonial Athletic Association’s All-Tournament Team and also received 2004 All-CAA First Team honors.
In addition to her WNBA career, which spanned from 2004-2008, Derevjanik has played professionally overseas since 2004 in Greece, Slovakia, Latvia, Russia and Lithuania.
