Hannah Howard embarks on her second season as an assistant coach on the Wagner women's basketball staff in 2021-22. Coach Howard was a vital part of the the Seahawk staff that guided Wagner to the program's first Northeast Conference (NEC) championship game in nearly two decades.Â
Howard was a standout player at Gustavus Adolphus, where she guided the Golden Gusties to 76 wins, 53 of those coming in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) contests over her four-year career. The team posted back-to-back 20 win seasons, highlighted by a 25-3 record in 2016-17 in which the Golden Gusties went 17-1 in the MIAC en route to a first-round appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship.Â
She was named team captain in her junior season. In all, she produced 28 games scoring in double-figures, netting a career-high 19 points on three occasions, the last coming in an 84-65 triumph on the road at St. Catherine back on February 15, 2017. At season’s end, Howard was one of 18 players named to the MIAC Women’s Basketball All-Conference Team. Additionally, Howard represented Gustavus Adolphus on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.Â

In her sophomore season, she corralled a career-best 19 caroms at home against Macalester back on February 18, 2015. A defensive presence, Howard swiped a career-high seven steals against Wisconsin-La Crosse on December 15, 2015, to help preserve a 69-61 win for the Golden Gusties.Â

Off the court, Howard was heavily involved in volunteer efforts such as Big Partner/Little Partner: Youth Mentoring; Gustie Buddies, where she would serve as a mentor to youth and adults with developmental delays; Gustavus Women in Leadership, which was centered around career and leadership development and BeU Wellbeing Coaching, where Howard would help fellow students identify and use their strengths to enhance their wellbeing vision.Â

While pursuing a degree in Communication Studies, Howard worked as a public relations assistant for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA, where she managed post-game press conferences and worked directly with the Lynx media relations staff in ensuing all scheduled events were completed in a timely fashion.Â

Howard received her Bachelor of Arts in 2017 while also minoring in Business Management. Following her graduation, she volunteered at an international non-profit organization in Rwanda, Africa from January to March in 2018, where she along with other volunteers used the power of sport to deliver health education, intervention, and empowerment to at-risk young, women and their families.Â

Additionally, she assisted in the planning of local community-wide events for over 2,000 individuals in helping to celebrate International Women’s Day while promoting health awareness by providing a plethora of different medical screenings. After her tenure, she also helped develop water well for the local community.Â
