Dedrick Dye

Dedrick Dye, a standout guard and an Academic All-American who helped lead Wagner College to the NCAA Tournament in 2003 before embarking on a professional playing career, has been named an assistant coach with the Seahawks, returned to his alma mater as assistant coach in August, 2009.

A prolific 6-0 shooting guard, Dye ranks 15th on the Wagner all-time scoring list with 1,349 points in a career that spanned from 1999-2003. One of the great players in Wagner College history, Dye graduated as the Seahawks’ all-time leader in three-pointers made with 270, a mark that stood until last season when Joey Mundweiler surpassed him, finishing with 320 career treys.

Dye’s 40.3 career three-point shooting mark is fourth on the Wagner all-time career list. While renowned for his long-range shooting prowess, Dye was a complete guard who currently stands second on the Wagner all-time steals list with 221 and is 11th in Seahawk history with 336 career assists.

As a senior, the native of Clinton, TN, where he was Clinton High School’s valedictorian, averaged 12.4 points and drained a then school-record 96 three-pointers in guiding Wagner to its only Northeast Conference (NEC) championship and a 21-11 overall record. A victory over St. Francis (NY) in the NEC title game catapulted the Seahawks into the 2003 NCAA Tournament, where they gave BIG EAST member Pittsburgh a battle before succumbing late.

Following that stellar campaign, Dye was chosen to the Third Team 2003 Verizon Academic All-America University Division Basketball Team and earned his degree in Business Administration with a minor in sociology. The 2001 and 2002 NEC Student-Athlete of the year, Dye was also a member of the Dean’s List and the National Honor Society.

Upon his graduation, Dye excelled as a professional player overseas in Essen, Germany (2003-04), Braga, Portugal (2004-05), and San Jose, Costa Rica (2006). He also played for the Pennsylvania Valleydawgs of the USBL during the summer of 2003.

His professional basketball background also includes instructing private basketball camps for children throughout Europe and Latin America. In 2005, he served as an AAU assistant coach for the Claxton Predators. Following his professional basketball career, Dye served as a pharmaceutical sales representative from 2007-2009.
