Sam McGrath

Former Brown University standout linebacker Sam McGrath joined the Seahawk staff as defensive line coach in March, 2014.

McGrath served the 2013 season at linebackers coach at Stevenson University in Maryland after spending one year in New Jersey as outside linebackers coach and assistant special teams coordinator at  FDU-Florham.

A  2012  graduate of Brown University with a 3.3 grade point average and a bachelor's degree in business economics, McGrath  played four seasons as an outside linebacker and safety for the NCAA Division I-AA Bears from 2008-11. He appeared in 27 games with 29 tackles, including 12 solo, 17 assisted and 2.5 for loss.  In 2008, McGrath was a freshman on the Bears’ team that captured the Ivy League championship.

As a senior, McGrath was named to the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society for maintaining a 3.2 cumulative grade point average through his college career.

While at Brown,  McGrath was active in community service, volunteering at Fox Point Elementary School and assisting with Bench Press for Cancer and Be the Match Bone Marrow Registry Drive.

A three-sport letterman (football, lacrosse, basketball) at Longmeadow High School in Massachusetts, McGrath was named the 2007 recipient of the Archie Roberts Award as the top scholar-athlete in Western Massachusetts. He served as captain of the football and lacrosse teams and was named first team All-Western Massachusetts in both, while leading the football team to four consecutive undefeated seasons. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.

His father Neil is the defensive line coach at Brown while his twin brother Clayton was a two-time All-Ivy League selection for the Bears from 2008-11.
