Joe Mercurio

Joe Mercurio begins his second season as an assistant coach for Wagner and will be responsible for working with the Seahawks’ catchers and outfielders, while also assisting with recruiting.

Mercurio comes to Grymes Hill after spending the 2011 campaign at Elon as the Phoenix’s volunteer assistant coach / director of operations.  He worked primarily with the catchers, outfielders and hitters while also coaching first base for a Phoenix team that won 33 games. Additionally, Mercurio assisted with scouting reports and was in charge of the program’s summer camps.

He began his collegiate coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach in 2010 at High Point University, assisting with the team’s catchers and outfielders. Mercurio also served as a first and third base coach and was in charge of the team’s travel and daily maintenance of the program.

Prior to working with the Panthers, Mercurio spent a summer coaching the Glens Fall Golden Eagles in the New York Collegiate Baseball League, and previously was an assistant coach for the World Yacht Clippers during the summers from 2007-2010.

The Brewster, NY, native was a three-year letterwinner at Maine, before graduating with a degree in communications in May of 2010. As a senior with the Black Bears, Mercurio hit a blistering .363 with 12 home runs, 19 doubles and 58 RBI en route to earning America East All-Conference and All-Tournament accolades. He also garnered ABCA All-Northeast first team, ECAC First Team and All-New England First Team honors in helping the Black Bears to 34 victories.

Mercurio will be pursuing his master’s degree at Wagner.
