Before Wagner: The Iceland national record for the U-17 in the 1500m and 1000m for the U-19. Additionally, his multiple accolades in the U-18 800m held up for nearly nine years before being broken.... A two-time representative in the U-20 Nordic Championships and has participated at the 2017 Reykjavik International Games, Thorstein has captured an indoor and outdoor title in both the 800m (1:55.11) and 1500m (4:00.06). Thorstein competed at the 2017 World Youth Games where he placed ninth in the 800m with a time of 1:57.58.  On June 7, 2017, at the Oslo Boysen Memorial, Thorstein posted a finals time in the 800m at 1:55.11.
