STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner men's tennis team shut out Le Moyne on Saturday, winning their last home match, and the second-to-last conference match of the season.
The doubles round went smoothly for the Seahawks, as the pairs on courts 1 and 3 won their sets with identical 6-2 scores. Sophomore
Eddie Schmidt and redshirt freshman
Lukas Escher finished up their win first on court 1, then graduate student
Tom Lamers and senior
Sebastian Dobson clinched the double point with their win on court 3, leaving the third match on court 2 abandoned, and Wagner with a 1-0 lead.
In the singles round, Wagner only needed three wins to secure a team victory. Escher grabbed the first singles point on court 2 with a straight set win, which included a 6-0 win in his first set. Schmidt then followed that up with another straight-set win on court 1 (6-2, 6-4). And just like with the doubles point, Lamers clinched the singles point as well with a win in three sets on court 3 (6-2, 3-6, 6-4); he staved off a comeback attempt in the second set, and helped the Seahawks secure the 4-0 team victory.
With the win, Wagner improved to 3-1 against NEC teams, with less than two weeks until the NEC Tournament starts.
The Seahawks will return to the courts on Saturday, April 11, when they travel up the Hudson River and take on Army at West Point. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m.
