BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Redshirt freshman
Lukas Escher was named the NEC Co-Rookie of the Week for his performance last week, the conference announced on Thursday.
This is Escher's second Rookie of the Week award this season, sharing this week's award with Binghamton's Giannis Sakkas.
The Seahawks played only one match over the weekend, a 5-2 win over FDU at the CSI Tennis Courts. In the match, Escher joined sophomore
Eddie Schmidt in providing the only doubles match win for Wagner against the Knights. The pair defeated FDU's top doubles pair 6-4, which was not enough to earn the doubles point, but gave the team momentum into the singles round.
During the singles round, Escher survived a tiebreak on court 2, winning the game 7-5 to take the first set 7-6. The second set ended more easily, as Escher won 6-4, taking the match.
Additionally, Schmidt was named an NEC Prime Performer. Along with his doubles match win with Escher, Schmidt won his singles match in straight sets, only dropping three games in the 6-1, 6-2 victory.
The Seahawks next match will be on Saturday March, 21, when they take on Norfolk State at 7 p.m. The match will be played at the CSI Tennis Courts.
