STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner men's tennis team opened their NEC schedule with a win against FDU on Saturday, taking down the Knights 5-2.
The Seahawks started slow, dropping the doubles point after losing on courts 2 and 3. But despite falling behind early, sophomore
Eddie Schmidt and redshirt freshman
Lukas Escher stole a win on court 1, and took that momentum into the singles round.
Graduate student
Tom Lamers got the ball rolling with a 6-2, 6-0 victory on singles court 3, en route to Wagner taking five of six singles matches in the round, all in straight sets. Schmidt and Escher won each of their singles matches to help the Seahawks go up 3-1. Then, senior
Pablo Rodriguez Gonzalez clinched the match with a 7-6(5), 6-4 victory on court 4; helping secure Wagner's fist conference win of the season.
