STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner men's tennis team defeated Sacred Heart 4-3 in its season opener on Friday.
The match started well for the Seahawks, as graduate student
Tom Lamers and sophomore
Joshua Zhao secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win in third doubles.
In the singles round, Redshirt freshman
Lukas Escher set the tone with a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory on court 2. Lamers finished second with a 6-4, 6-4 victory on court 3, then sophomore
Eddie Schmidt won a tightly-contested match on court 1, a match that required tiebreakers in the second set. Schmidt would win the tiebreaker 7(4)-6(2), securing Wagner's fourth point, and the victory.
