STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner College women's lacrosse team dropped its 2026 home opener to CAA member Monmouth by a score of 13-6 on Saturday on Hameline Field.
The Seahawks (0-2, 0-0 NEC) started out the game hot, scoring five goals in the first quarter while holding the Hawks (3-0, 0-0 CAA) to only three scores. Junior Léa Cini scored the game's first goal on Wagner's first possession off of an assist from sophomore Sydney Mulroony.
Cini and junior captain Amelia Logan scored twice in the quarter while senior Shea Saracino found the back of the net for the first time as a member of the Seahawks midway through the first.
Wagner earned seven draw controls in the first period compared to two for Monmouth.
In the second quarter, the Hawks responded with six goals while keeping the Seahawks at bay. At the half, Monmouth held a 9-5 advantage.
Wagner's final goal of the game was scored by Saracino, who finished the game with two goals. Logan, Saracino, and Cini scored two goals each to be responsible for all of the Seahawks six points.
Defensively, junior Grace DeCarolis saved 12 shots on 43 Monmouth attempts. On the year, the Ridley, PA native has recorded 22 saves. Junior Alex Wright collected a team-high five draw controls while senior Erin Rooney caused two turnovers.
As a team, Wagner collected 14 draw controls to Monmouth's seven, but the Seahawks committed 20 turnovers compared to the Hawks' 12. Monmouth put 23 shots on target while Wagner attempted 13 on net.
Next up, Wagner hosts Ivy League member Dartmouth for an 11 a.m. start on Sunday, Feb. 22 on Hameline Field for the Seahawks' annual 'Alumni Appreciation Day'.
