STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College football team will return to Hameline Field for a non-conference matchup against Ivy League member Princeton on Saturday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for noon, with live coverage on NEC Front Row and SI TV, featuring Marc Ernay and Ray Martel on the call.
First and Ten
Wagner (1-4, 0-2 NEC) enters Saturday's matchup following a 45-14 loss at Central Connecticut State on Oct. 3.
The Seahawks finished with 322 yards of total offense, including 277 through the air, while the Blue Devils recorded 402 total yards.
Freshman quarterback Jason Wiley Jr. finished 8-of-10 passing for 135 yards and one touchdown, while sophomore Benjamin Newman completed 9-of-15 passes for 74 yards. Redshirt junior Trip Maxwell added 68 passing yards in his Seahawk debut.
Defensively, senior Shamar Williams led the Seahawks with a game-high 10 tackles, all solo, and one pass breakup. Junior Brendan Leal added seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss, while freshman Grant Edmond recorded Wagner's lone sack.
Junior Julio Tatis added an 85-yard interception return for a touchdown, marking his second pick-six of the season.
Following Week 5, Williams was named an NEC Prime Performer for the second time this season.
Defensive Touchdowns
Last season, Wagner finished tied for first in the FCS with five defensive touchdowns.
This season, the Seahawks are tied for first in the FCS with eight other teams, each recording two interception return touchdowns.
The Series
Saturday's matchup marks the first all-time meeting between Wagner and Princeton.
The Seahawks last faced an Ivy League opponent on Oct. 12, 2024, falling to Columbia, 24-6, at Hameline Field.
Wagner's last victory over an Ivy League opponent came in 2010, when the Seahawks defeated Cornell, 41-7, at home.
Scouting the Tigers
Princeton (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) enters Saturday's matchup following a 35-7 road victory over Columbia on Oct. 3.
The Tigers are led by head coach Bob Surace, who is in his 16th season at the helm.
Princeton opened its season with a 21-14 road loss to Bryant before earning a 22-0 shutout victory over UAlbany at home.
The Tigers lead the Ivy League in scoring defense, allowing just 9.3 points per game, while ranking third in scoring offense at 23.7 points per contest.
Princeton also leads the conference in rushing offense, averaging 156.3 yards per game, while ranking last in passing offense at 165.0 yards per game.
Junior running back Kai Honda was named Ivy League Co-Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for 219 yards and four touchdowns against Columbia.
Senior punter Brady Clark earned Ivy League Special Teams Player of the Week honors after averaging 55.5 yards on four punts against the Lions.
The Tigers were picked to finish tied for fifth out of eight teams in the 2026 Ivy League Preseason Poll.
Last season, Princeton finished 3-7 overall and 2-5 in Ivy League play.
Preseason 2026
Wagner was selected fourth in the 2026 NEC Preseason Coaches' Poll, marking the program's highest preseason ranking since 2019.
Five Seahawks were named to the 2026 Preseason All-NEC Team: senior defensive lineman Logan Barnes, redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Ethan Appolon, senior defensive back Shamar Williams, senior running back Sekou Kamau and senior offensive lineman Malik Wilson.
Wagner will play 12 games this season, including seven conference contests, five home games and two matchups against FBS opponents.
The Captains
Ahead of the season, senior defensive lineman Logan Barnes and junior quarterback Jack Stevens were selected by their teammates to serve as team captains.
Barnes was named a captain for the second consecutive season, while Stevens earned the honor for the first time.
