PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Wagner fencing teams participated in the Dave Micahnik Penn Invitational on Sunday, and came out of it with only one win in nine duels.
The women slightly outperformed the men, as they picked up Wagner's lone 22-5 win over NJIT, and had closer losses against Penn and Ohio State.
Individually, the epees had the best all-around day. Sophomores
Daniel Ojeda Buitrago and
Maria Lopez Meneses, and freshman Ana Paredes each came away with nine bout wins, tied for the most among Wagner fencers. The women's epees also kept the Seahawks in the duel against Penn, winning 7-2 in what would ultimately be a 15-12 team loss.
In foil, junior
Renata Ziganova picked up six individual wins, including three in the win against NJIT, while freshman
Jakub Vrtilek won five of his bouts, the second most on the men's side. And in sabre, senior
Fanny Straub led the way with eight individual wins, while sophomore
