Women's Soccer Takes First NEC Loss at Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Wagner women's soccer took its first Northeast Conference loss of the season on Thursday night, falling 2-1 on the road at Howard.

Wagner moves to 2-2-5 on the season, with a 1-1-1 record in NEC play. The Seahawks' offense recorded seven total shots with three shots on goal, logging three in the first half and four in the second.

Senior goalkeeper Shae McGinty recorded three saves, two in the first half and one in the second. Howard's offense was only able to score late in the game, with the first goal coming in the eighty-second minute and the second coming in the eighty-seventh. Wagner's lone goal in the game came from an own goal from Howard in the seventy-eighth minute before the Bison's offense scored their two goals to take the lead.

Junior Alana Goldsmith, sophomore Kara Kilpert and freshman Vanessa Lovisa each added one shot on goal for the Wagner offense.

The Seahawks and Bison were even when it came to corner kicks, with three apiece and Howard logging 13 fouls to Wagner's eight.

Wagner is looking for its second conference win after taking its first in a 3-0 victory over Mercyhurst on Sunday, September 21. Next up, the Seahawks return home to Hameline Field for a 1 p.m. matchup against Chicago State on Sunday, September 28.
