NEW BRITAIN, C.T. - Wagner women's soccer opened Northeast Conference play with a thrilling 3-3 draw on the road against Central Connecticut State on Thursday evening.
The Seahawks struck early as
Alana Arjona netted her first goal of the season in the 8th minute, assisted by
Kelly Gallagher and
Hailey Knapp. After CCSU equalized in the 37th, Wagner responded quickly with
Megan Knapp's goal, assisted by Arjona, to regain the lead. Just a minute later, the Blue Devils converted again, sending the match into halftime tied 2-2.
The hosts grabbed their first lead in the 56th minute, but Wagner continued to push forward. Gallagher delivered the equalizer in the 67th, with the help from
Riley Frederick to level the match at 3-3. Despite several late chances and an 8-5 edge in corners, the Seahawks couldn't find the winner.
Senior goalkeeper
Shae McGinty registered five saves, while the Wagner attack produced 17 total shots, led by Gallagher (4), Arjona (3), and Rivera (3).
With the result, Wagner moves to 1-1-5 overall and 0-0-1 in NEC play, while CCSU sits at 0-4-2 (0-0-1).
The Seahawks return home to Hameline Field on Sunday, September 21. They will be playing another conference game against Mercyhurst at 1PM.
