Football Hosts Marist in Home Opener Saturday on Hameline Field

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner football plays its first of six home games on Saturday, September 13, welcoming Marist to Hameline Field for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The game streams live on NEC Front Row with Marc Ernay and Craig D'Amico on the call.

The Seahawks and Red Foxes meet for the first time since 2008 in a series that dates to 1992. Wagner holds an 8–6 edge and has won the last three matchups, including a 21–14 road win in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., in 2008.

Marist (1–1, 0–0 PFL) opened with a 31–14 victory over New Haven before falling 34–23 to Bucknell on Sept. 6. Against Bucknell, QB Sonny Mannino completed 22 of 42 passes for 229 yards with one touchdown and one interception, and added 89 rushing yards on 20 attempts as the Red Foxes amassed 184 rushing yards.

Wagner (0–2, 0–0 NEC) returns home after road contests at Kansas and Georgetown. At Georgetown, the Seahawks totaled 306 yards of offense, including 169 on the ground. Junior Sekou Kamau led the rushing attack with 58 yards, sophomore Matt Morad added 57, and graduate student Andre Hines Jr. contributed 42 and a touchdown. Senior Derek Burrell paced the receivers with five catches for 59 yards, while junior Teree McDonald added seven receptions for 57 yards. Sophomore Jack Stevens went 15 of 25 for 128 yards and a rushing score. Defensively, junior Armani Itote recorded a sack, and graduate student Akil Lampley and redshirt junior Daren Omoregie registered six tackles apiece.

Head coach Tom Masella is 4–1 all-time against Marist from his previous stints at Central Connecticut State and Fordham.

Saturday's matchup marks Wagner's annual Whiteout Game, and fans are encouraged to wear white in support of the Seahawks.

Wagner travels to FBS member Central Michigan next Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
