Bridgewater, N.J. — To close out the Northeast Conference's weekly honors for outdoor track and field season, senior Ruth-Ann Chambers was named Track Athlete of the Week for her performances at the Penn Relays.
Leading the Wagner contingent in their final meet of the regular season, Chambers competed in three events. She ran the 400-meter hurdles with a 59.57 time to finish sixteenth of 37 qualifiers. In the 4x100-meter relay, freshman Christine Manneh, Chambers, senior Janee' Patterson and sophomore June Fernandez finished seventh with a 47.85-second finish. Running the same quartet in a different order, Chambers, Manneh, Fernandez and Patterson also ran a 1:39.40 time in the 4x200-meter relay to finish twelfth.
Joining Chambers with Prime Performer honors this week are junior Julio Martinez and senior Gia Comerford. Martinez posted a 4.70-meter clearance in pole vault to place fifteenth.
Comerford ran the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a 10:22.23 time. In the 4x800-meter relay, junior Laura Trenado, Comerford, sophomore Magui Calvo and Angelina Olah ran a combined 8:58.11 to finish sixth.
Next up, Chambers and the Seahawks look to build on those performances at the NEC Outdoor Championships beginning May 3, where the women's team will work to win their second conference championship this season after winning the program's first indoor championship in February.
Hosted by Stonehill in Easton, Massachusetts, the NEC Outdoor Championships will begin Saturday, May 3 and conclude on Sunday, May 4.
