Madison, NJ – Sophomore Flavio Vinci of the Wagner fencing team set a program record with a remarkable 7th-place finish at the Mid-Atlantic/South Regionals, hosted by Drew University, on Saturday.

Vinci had an impressive run, advancing all the way to the finals. In the quarterfinals, Vinci dominated his opponents, earning four victories to move on to the semifinals. He continued his strong performance in the semis, securing two more wins to reach the final. There, Vinci earned five victories, ultimately finishing in 7th place.

In the saber competition, sophomore Noah Beitel and freshman Broghan Bukowski both made it to the quarterfinals.

Another standout performance came from sophomore Ismael Chavez, who represented the epee squad. Chavez fought his way to 12th place, making it to the finals for the first time in program history. In the opening round, he earned three victories and moved on to the quarterfinals with another three wins. He advanced to the semifinals with two additional victories before securing one more win in the final, ultimately finishing 12th. This marks the first time Wagner has had two fencers in the finals at the same time.

Sophomore Jaime Prim and Freshman Daniel Ojeda, as well as the epee squad, also reached the quarterfinals in their respective events.

On the women's side, sophomore Renata Ziganova was the lone representative for the foil squad, finishing in the top-20. In saber, junior Fanny Straub and freshman Villo Nyiri both finished as top-30 contenders in their respective pools. Senior Katerina Cervenkova rounded out the Seahawks' impressive performances, finishing in the top-25 in the epee competition.

The Green & White will now await the announcement of athletes selected for nationals. The decisions will be made public on Tuesday, March 11.
