This Week In Wagner Athletics; Nine Teams In Action As Women’s Water Polo Begins MAAC Play

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week. 

 

Baseball

- Wagner baseball opens its week with a midweek game at Rutgers. The two teams will play Wednesday at 3 pm at Bainton Field. 

- The Seahawks will then host baseball's installment of the Subway Series with three games against LIU this weekend. Games begin Friday at 3 pm 

- Wagner enters the weekend at 3-0 in Northeast Conference play after sweeping Norfolk State on the road last weekend. 

 

Men's Golf 

- The Seahawks are set to open their spring slate of matches on Tuesday, March 12 at the Talamore Country Club against La Salle. 

 

Men's Lacrosse

- The Seahawks will begin Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Saturday, March 15 against Cleveland State at Hameline Field.

- Sophomore Danny McMahon earned an NEC Prime Performer honor after scoring five goals against NJIT last Saturday.

Men's Tennis

- The Seahawks will host NEC foe Saint Francis U on Saturday, March 15.

- First serve will begin at 6 pm.

 

Women's Golf

The women's golf team will also open their spring season this week on Friday, March 14, playing in Hempstead, NY against Hofstra. The two teams met in a match this fall and Wagner took home a 328-338 win. 


Women's Lacrosse

- Wagner will begin conference action against the Stonehill Skyhawks on Saturday, March 15. 

- Opening draw control is scheduled for noon in North Easton, MA.

Women's Water Polo

- Wagner will take part in the VMI Showcase from Saturday, March 15 to Sunday, March 16 in Lexington, VA.

- The Green & White will face-off begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play against Marist and VMI on Saturday before taking on Iona on Sunday.

- Most recently, senior Carlota Alonso was named the conference's player of the week 

After scoring 18 goals at the Harvard Invite across four games. In the Green & White's win over Siena she recorded five goals and against No. 22 Brown, she added four goals. In the win over No. 23 Cal Baptist she added eight goals and against No. 11 Harvard, she added one goal.

 

Women's Tennis

- The Seahawks will host NEC foe Saint Francis U on Saturday, March 15.

- First serve will begin at 6 pm.

 

Softball

- The Seahawks will be traveling to Piscataway, NJ to play against Rutgers on Tuesday, March 11.

- Wagner will then have a three game series at home going up against NEC newcomer Mercyhurst. On Saturday, March 15, there will be a doubleheader set for 1 pm and 3 pm, and will finish off the third game on Sunday, March 16 at 12 pm.
