This Week In Wagner Athletics: Four Teams In Action As Cross Country, Field Hockey, And Football Are Set To Participate In Season Openers

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.
 

Cross Country

- Wagner will compete at the Stony Brook Invite on Saturday.

- At the conclusion of last season, the men's program placed fourth at the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships while the women's team earned fifth.

 

Field Hockey 

- The Seahawks will begin their 2024 campaign against La Salle at 3:00 pm on Friday, August 30 at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.

- Wagner looks to make the NEC Tournament for the fourth consecutive season under the leadership of senior captains Emma Lofstedt and Rebecca Desiderio.

- Sophomore Charlotte Muller completed her first year on Grymes Hill with a Second-Team All-NEC honor.

Football 

- Wagner will open the 2024 season against Virginia University of Lynchburg on Saturday, August 31, with kickoff set for noon.

- The Seahawks will look for their first season-opening win since 2018, when Wagner stormed past Bowie State by a score of 40-23. 

- Graduate students Justin Reilly and Jalin Justice along with junior Brady Anderson were chosen by their teammates to lead the Seahawks in 2024. All three captains have been at Wagner for their entire collegiate careers.

- Anderson, sophomore Jaylen Bonelli, junior Jorel Liverpool, and sophomore Zachary Ricci all earned spots on the Preseason All-NEC team.

- The Seahawks once again had three players in NFL camps in 2024 in Cam Gill, Chris Williams, and Titus Leo.

Women's Soccer 

- Wagner will return to Hameline Field on Thursday, August 29, to take on Fordham. The Seahawks, who are 0-0-2 at home in 2024.

- This past Sunday, the Green & White dropped a road contest at Manhattan by a score of 3-0.
