Berkeley, CA - The Wagner College women's water polo team competed against #1 UCLA in the First Round of the NCAA Water Polo Championships.
The Bruins prevailed by a score of 17-7 over the Seahawks.

UCLA jumped out to a 7-2 advantage after the first quarter. Junior Carlota Alonso put Wagner on the board just two minutes into the match with a penalty shot to tie the game at one a piece. Sophomore Magali Ogg was responsible for Wagner's second goal of the period.
In the second quarter, senior Mar Navarro scored the lone goal for Wagner midway through the frame. At half, the Seahawks trailed the Bruins 11-3.
In the third, Alonso found the back of the net for the second time during the game with 0:33 left in the quarter. For Wagner, this was its only score of the frame, as the Seahawks trailed 14-4 heading into the fourth.
In the final quarter of the season, both Wagner and UCLA scored three goals. Mar Navarro put away her second score of the game midway through the frame.
Junior Casey Taylor and sophomore Maggie Pike both found the back of the net late in the fourth, to bring the game's score to 17-7.
Additionally, junior Martina Parisi dished out two assists during the contest. Alonso, senior Grace Coleman, and freshman Maylen Sampedro Tarela all collected one assist each.
Coleman also added two steals to her stat-line.
In goal, sophomore Francesca Sena ended the match with three blocks.
Wagner concludes its 2024 season with an overall record of 30-5, garnering its eighth MAAC title in the last 11 seasons, and winning its fourth NCAA Championship tournament game in program history.
This season marks the third consecutive in which the Seahawks' women's water polo team won 30 games throughout the year.
