Bridgewater, NJ - Junior Ruth-Ann Chambers and freshman Jack Mason have been named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Track Athlete of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively, for their performances at the Colonial Relays from Friday, April 5 to Saturday, April 6 in Williamsburg, VA.
For Chambers, this is the first conference Track Athlete of the Week award of her career. The Kingston, Jamaica native garnered three Rookie of the Week honors two seasons ago.Â
Â
This past weekend, Chambers improved her own school record in the 400m hurdles, finishing the event in 59.77. Chambers became the first Seahawks to complete the 400m hurdles in less than one minute.Â
Also at the Colonial Relays, Chambers earned third place in the 100m hurdles, clocking in a time of 14.30.Â
Chambers kept busy as she was a part of two relay quartets. With the help of Chambers, Wagner placed fourth in the 4x100m relay and third in the 4x200m relay.
Chambers now becomes the first women's Seahawk to receive the NEC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor since Nicole Bell back on April 5, 2016. She now owns the 63rd best 400m hurdle time in the nation. Chambers 14.30 100m hurdle time is second in the conference, behind only herself in the event.
Â
On the men's side, Mason was named the conference's Rookie of the Week for the second time during the 2024 outdoor season.
At the Colonial Relays, Mason competed in three events, earning first, second, and fourth place in events.Â
Mason jumped 7.01m in the long jump to earn first place against 12 other competitors in the event. Mason received his second place finish as a part of the 4x100m relay team that finished in 42.06.
Mason completed his day in the triple jump as he placed fourth out of 13 jumpers with a 13.96m mark on his first attempt.
Earlier this season, Mason was named the NEC Rookie of the Week for earning sixth place in the long jump at the UCF Knights Invite in Orlando, FL. There, Mason cleared a distance of 7.14m in the event.
Mason's 7.01m mark is second only to his own 7.14m distance at the UCF Knights Invite. Mason's 13.96m triple jump is a conference best.
Additionally, freshman Magui Calvo-Jorge, senior Ryan Lane, senior Jason Marchese, and junior Adrian Pocesta were named NEC Prime Performers for their showings at the Colonial Relays.
Â
Next up, Wagner will split its two teams as a portion of the program will head to Princeton, NJ for the Larry Ellis Invite from Saturday, April 13 to Monday, April 15.
