Stony Brook, NY - Members of the Wagner College's women's and men's teams competed at the 2024 Stony Brook Snowflake Classic on Friday, March 16 at Stony Brook University.
Along with the Seahawks, Fordham, Hostra, Iona, and the host school of Stony Brook took part in 11 different events for both the women's and men's side to kick off their 2024 outdoor campaigns.Â
Representing the men's team was sophomore Dante Rodney, who placed in first a top eight other finishers in the 400m dash. Rodney completed the event in a personal-best time of 51.29, beating out second place Liam Volz of Fordham by .31.
Representing the Green & White for the women's team was freshman Magui Calvo-Jorge, senior Julia Durkin, senior Megan Guglielmo, senior Hannah Fulco, senior Elizabeth Szambel, and senior Maryann Walsh.
In the 800m run, Durkin led the Seahawks with a time of 2:36.18 and a sixth place finish out of 11 finishers in the event. Guglielmo placed seventh with a time of 2:45.31, meanwhile Fulco received tenth place, crossing the finish line in 2:54.91.
In the mile run, Calvo-Jorge earned second in the event, finishing in 5:10.50. Calvo-Jorge completed the event less than one second behind the first place finisher, Kate Tugman from Iona.
Also in the mile, Szambel placed eighth with a time of 5:29.58, meanwhile Walsh placed in thirteenth with a time of 7:42.68.
Next up, Wagner will send select athletes to the UCF Knights Invite from Friday, March 22 to Saturday, March 23 in Orlando, FL, meanwhile, other members of the track & field program will participate in the Oscar Moore Invite in Rowan, NJ on Saturday, March 23.
