Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's and men's track & field team competed at the Fast Track Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY on Friday, February 9.
The Seahawks were one of 58 women's teams who participated in the meet on Friday, as the Green & White are preparing for the Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships on Sunday, February 18 to Monday, February 19.
Junior Ruth-Ann Chambers finished in first atop 47 runners in the 60m hurdles, clocking in a time of 8.60. The Kingston, Jamaica native also placed sixth in the 60m dash, with a time of 7.81.
Senior Elizabeth Szambel ran the 3000m, crossing the finish line in 36th place out of 62 runners, clocking in a time of 11:03.73.
In the field, sophomore Julia Garcia placed fourth, out of 29 participants, in the triple jump. The Isla Christina, Spain native had her best jump on her second attempt, as she cleared a distance of 11.13m, landing just .27 short of a personal-best.
On the men's side, 65 teams competed at the Fast Track Invite.
The Seahawks garnered four top-10 finishes, with junior Johnny Sokoll earning seventh in the mile. The Staten Island, NY native ran a personal-best in the mile on Friday, crossing the finish line in 4:10.07. Sokoll finished in front of 98 other competitors in the event, and finished second for his class.
Senior Jason Marchese placed eighth out of 121 participants in the 200m dash. Marchese crossed the finish line in 21.94, falling .73 behind a personal-best in the event.
Graduate student Dominic Palermo ran a personal-best in the 800m, finishing in 1:56.06 for an eleventh place finish, out of 103 finishers.
In the field, sophomore Julio Martinez cleared a height of 4.35m on his first pole vault attempt, The Madrid, Spain native placed in sixth place, out of 19 participants, in the pole vault, falling .45 behind the first place finisher.
Junior Kharlin Watkins came away with a height of 1.89m in the high jump, placing him in seventh place. The Coram, NY native had his best attempt come on his first.
Next up, the Seahawks will be participating in the NEC Indoor Championships from Sunday, February 18 to Monday, February 19 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island, NY.
