This Week In Wagner Athletics; Eight Teams In Action As Seahawks Host Home Events Thursday Through Saturday

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.
 

Field Hockey

- The Seahawks will host the Pioneers of Sacred Heart at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex on Friday, October 11 at 3:00 pm.

- The Green & White are 6-5 on the season, with a conference mark of 2-1.

- Most recently, senior captain Emma Lofstedt earned the Northeast Conference (NEC) Offensive Player of the Week honor while freshman goalkeeper Saar van Dalen received both the conference's Rookie of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week nods after a shutout performance against LIU and Columbia. 
 

Football

- Wagner will take on Ivy League member Columbia on Saturday at Hameline Field

- The Seahawks are coming off a convincing 28-7 road win at Stonehill on Saturday.

- Graduate student Justin Reilly was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Skyhawks. Reilly recorded 12 tackles and one sack.

- Graduate student quarterback Jake Cady and senior running back Rickey Spruill also earned NEC Prime Performer honors.

Men's Water Polo

- Wagner will head to the Bronx for a cross town conference matchup against #11 Fordham on Saturday, October 12th at noon.

- Last weekend the Seahawks headed to California and picked up a win in sudden death over Biola. Freshman Matan Friedenberg scored the final goal and senior Kyle Chambers tallied four goals in the contest.

 

Men's Golf

- The Seahawks will participate in the three-day Bucknell Invitational Golf Tournament, beginning Sunday, October 13. 

- This will be the second of four tournaments that the team will participate in for the fall.

- Graduate student Thomas Choi and freshman Daniel Cassidy led the pack for the Seahawks at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate Tournament, each firing a +8, 150 over two days of competition.

 

Women's Golf

- The Green and White will take on Hofstra in a dual match at the Seawane Club in Hewlett, NY on Friday, October 12.

- Already their fourth event of the fall semester, the team finished 6th at the the Hornets Invitational, their best finish of the season so far.

- Freshman Maria Calleja was named an NEC Prime Performer last week for her performance at the Navy Invitational. Calleja shot a -1, 71 on day 1 of the tournament which propelled her into third place overall for the tournament.

 

Women's Soccer

-The Seahawks will host rival CCSU in a rematch of the 2023 NEC Championship at Hameline Field on Thursday, October 10th at 7pm.

-Last week, the Green & White picked up a 2-1 victory over Chicago St. in a game where Graduate Student Kayla Barbosa scored the go-ahead goal in the 88th minute.

-Barbosa was named an NEC prime performer for her efforts last week.

 

Women's Tennis

- The Seahawks will travel to Philadelphia, PA to participate in the ITA Regional Tournament. Winners will qualify for ITA Sectionals at the commencement of the fall season.

- In their last match against Holy Cross, the women's team swept the singles bracket, winning the overall match by a score of 6-1.

- Graduate student Daniela Hernandez and freshman Victoria Madail each went undefeated en route to the Seahawks' first win of the fall season.

 

Women's Triathlon

- Wagner will travel to Charlotte, NC for the NCAA East National Qualifier.

- Last time out, the Seahawks placed three athletes in the top-55 at the Robious Landing Triathlon.
