Women’s Soccer Clinches Spot In NEC Tournament

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer team clinched a spot in the Northeast Conference (NEC) tournament for the second consecutive season following a 1-0 victory over Le Moyne Thursday night at Hameline Field.

The victory marked the sixth conference win of the season for the Seahawks, the most in program history.

Freshman Deirdre Meberg scored the lone goal of the game in the fifth minute off a cross field pass from senior Olivia Rubbo. The goal brings Meberg's total up to three on the season.

The freshmen quartet of Meberg, Anayah Rivera, Alana Arjona and Anna Shepard lead the NEC in total goals by freshmen.

The Green & White compiled 24 shots with 12 on goal compared to the Dolphins nine shots with six on goal.

Reigning back-to-back NEC Defensive Player of the Week senior Sam Hughes racked up six saves for her eight clean sheet of the season and the 19th of her career.

The playoff berth marks Wagner's fourth appearance in program history. Wagner's first appearance came in 1997 under Ed Hynes, the first coach in program history.

The Seahawks (7-4-6, 6-1-2 NEC) sit atop of the conference with one game remaining against LIU on Thursday October 31 at LIU Soccer Park. The four team NEC tournament begins on Thursday November 7 with the host still to be determined with one week left in conference action.
