This Week in Wagner Athletics; Nine Teams In Action As Field Hockey Begins Conference Play

Staten Island, NY - Here is a look at the Wagner Athletics events for this week.

Football
- The Seahawks will travel to FBS member Rutgers on Saturday, with kickoff set for 3:30 pm on CBSSportsNetwork. 
- The Seahawks have won two consecutive games, most recently earning a dramatic 30-27 victory over Merrimack. 
- Wagner swept the NEC Weekly awards, with Steven Krajewski, Junior Wily, and Jaylen Bonelli earning Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Field Hockey
- The Seahawks will begin Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Friday, September 29 at 4:00 pm before hosting Drexel on Sunday, October 1 at 1:00 pm.
- Last week, Wagner fell to Bucknell and Lehigh as sophomore goalkeeper Sam Black stopped 15 shots in two games.

Women's Soccer
- Wagner women's soccer will play its fourth NEC game of the season when it hits the road to face-off against NEC newcomer Le Moyne. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, October 1 at 2:00 pm.
- After winning their NEC opener, the Seahawks dropped two contests this week to Merrimack and Howard. As of September 25, the Seahawks sit in seventh place in the NEC leaderboard, just short of a playoff berth with a month remaining in the season. 

Men's Water Polo
- After a week away from the pool, the Seahawks will fly into Claremont, CA for the Gary Troyer Tournament from Friday, September 29 to Saturday, September 30.
- Wagner will face off against #14 California Baptist and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on the first day of competition, and then University of La Verne and Pomona-Pitzer during day two.

Cross Country
- Both the women's and men's cross country teams will travel to Bethlehem, PA for the Paul Short Invite held on Saturday, September 30. 
- Last time out, Laura Trenado finished the LIU Invite in tenth, out of 141 competitors. Trenado ran the 5k in 19:24.4, for a mile pace of 6:15.
 -For the men, Anthony Bentivegna and Michael Ryan finished in fourteenth and fifteenth, respectively, at the LIU Invite. Bentivegna ran the 8k in 21:05.18, and Ryan in 21:12.18.

Men's Golf
- The Columbia Autumn Invitational is next for the men's golf team. The event will be held in Lake Placid, NY at the Lake Placid Club from Saturday, September 30 to Sunday, October 1.
- Last timeout at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate, senior Thomas Choi and junior Michael Foley led the way for the Seahawks.

Women's Golf
- The Seahawks will take part in the Navy Invitational on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.
- In their first event of the fall, the Seahawks received top-40 finishes from juniors Elise Fujita and Ximena de la Garza.

Men's Tennis
- Last week, the Seakhawks hosted the Wagner Clay Court Invitational Friday, September 22. Wagner had a successful outing in doubles, earning four wins over Rider and one win over Queens College. 
- This week Wagner will head to Hempstead, NY to compete in the Hofstra Invitational Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.
