Staten Island, NY - The Wagner women's soccer team fell by a score of 1-0 to Merrimack on Thursday night at Hameline Field. It was the first Northeast Conference (NEC) loss of the season and first loss in four games overall for the Seahawks.
Wagner and Merrimack traded momentum all evening, but in the 85th minute the Warriors capitalized on a woman-up situation and scored the lone goal of the contest.
Graduate student Madison Carr nearly tied it in the 89th minute, but Wagner's ninth offside call of the game turned the would-be goal away.
Junior Sam Hughes matched her season-high with six saves in the defeat.
Graduate student Juliana Rafaniello led the team in shots with three. Freshman Jess Maraia and junior Kylie McNally had two shots apiece.
The Seahawks fell to 3-4-2 (1-1). They will look to add to their NEC point total in a road matchup at Howard on Sunday, September 24 at 1:00 pm.
