Fairfield, CT – The Wagner College women's lacrosse team suffered a 7-6 loss to Sacred Heart in the 2023 Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers held a 2-0 lead after the first quarter as Emma Kittredge tallied two goals.
Senior
Megan Greco responded for the Seahawks as she scored three consecutive goals. Two of the goals came in the second quarter as Wagner tied the game in the second.
The game entered the second half knotted at two before Wagner continued its run to take a 5-2 lead into the fourth quarter. Along with Greco, sophomores
Katie Siverson and
Ella Marino tallied goals.
The Pioneers responded in the fourth quarter with a goal to cut Wagner's lead to 5-3.
Katie Siverson tallied her second goal of the game to give Wagner a 6-3 lead with 11:04 remaining in the contest.
The Pioneers closed the game on a 4-0 run and tallied the game-winning goal with 15 seconds remaining in the contest.
Along with Greco, graduate students
Lauren DiStefano and
Aileen Hannan were named to the All-Tournament Team.
