Staten Island, NY – Lou Anarumo '90 served as Wagner College's commencement speaker and received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree as part of Wagner's graduation ceremonies.
Anarumo currently serves as the Cincinnati Bengals' defensive coordinator and is entering his 12
th season as an NFL coach in 2023. Anarumo joined the Bengals' staff in 2019 and has coached one of the most successful defensive units in the National Football League in the last four seasons.
At Friday's ceremony, Anarumo encouraged Wagner's graduates to find ways to give back to the community and help others in order to make a difference in the world: "Success is just not about personal achievement, it's about using your talents and abilities to make a positive impact on the world around you."
A Staten Island native, Anarumo earned his B.S. degree in special education from Wagner in 1990. While in college, he served as head junior varsity coach at his high school alma mater, Susan Wagner High School, where he had previously played quarterback. Anarumo served as the part-time running backs coach at Wagner in 1990.
Wagner is one of six colleges where Anarumo has worked as an assistant coach, a list that includes Purdue, Harvard, Marshall, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Syracuse, before breaking into the NFL with the Miami Dolphins in 2012.
In total, over 650 students earned degrees during two graduation ceremonies on Grymes Hill.
