Staten Island, NY - Both Wagner men's and women's tennis teams hosted the Hampton University Pirates for their final home duals at the CSI Tennis Courts on Tuesday.
On the women's side, junior Gabrielle Perraudin came back and defeated Hampton's Mio Kozaki in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 10-2. This win marks Perraudin's fifth straight win in #1 or #2 singles positions.
Sophomore Paula Ysabelle Uy forced a third set in #3 singles, but would fall 6-4, 5-7, 10-6.
In doubles action, Gabrielle Perraudin and junior Tara Dakic barely missed out a victory in #1 doubles, but would lose 7-6 to Hampton's Mio Kozaki and Diana Starodubtseva.
The Pirates would prevail 6-1 over the Seahawks.
For the men, sophomore Jordan Hunte and freshman Sebastian Dobson forced third sets in #5 and #6 singles, respectively, but neither could pull out a point for Wagner.
Senior and recent Northeast Conference (NEC) Prime Performer Tejasvi Mehra forced a tiebreaker point in #2 doubles, but would eventually fall 7-6, 6-1.
In doubles play, Tejasvi Mehra and fellow senior Omar Loutfy would lose a tightly contest #1 doubles, 7-5. Along with the junior duo of Odeda Arazza and Rodrigo Perez dropping the #2 doubles, 6-4. Hampton would go onto win 7-0.
Next up, the women's tennis team will travel to Baltimore, MD on Sunday, April 8th, for a dual against Coppin State. The men's tennis team will head to Long Branch, NJ for a Friday dual against the Hawks on April 7th. First serve is set for 2:00 pm.
