Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College men's tennis team moved to 3-1 in Northeast Conference (NEC) play with a 6-1 victory over Stonehill College at the CSI Tennis Courts on Sunday.
The Seahawks celebrated Senior Day, honoring five seniors before the match;
Omar Loutfy, Seong Gillespie, Abhinav Magow, Jai Sai Venkatramana, and Tejasvi Mehra.
The seniors came to play on their special day. With singles wins from Tejasvi Mehra and Omar Loutfy, and a doubles victory from the pairing of Jai Sai Venkatramana and Abhinav Magow.
The Seahawks won yet another doubles point, their fifth in the last six matches. Wagner swept all three contests behind Loutfy and Mehra at #1, Magow and Venkatramana at #3, and juniors Rodrigo Perez and Odeda Arazza at #2.
Perez was a straight set winner at first singles. Senior Tejasvi Mehra won in straights at #2, 6-3,6-4.
Freshman Sebastian Dobson won 6-4, 6-1 at #6. Loutfy dropped his first set at #3 before correcting his course for a three set win. Graduate student Philip Lynch was also a three set winner at #5. Venkatramana won his first set, but ultimately fell, 7-5 in the third.
Next up, Wagner will take on a trio of Northeast Conference (NEC) opponents. First, on Thursday, March 30th, the Seahawks travel to FDU to take on the Knights at 1:00 pm. Second, Wagner heads to LIU for a dual with the Sharks, March 31st at 2:00 pm. Then, the Green & White roll into Queens for a 1:00 pm serve against St. Francis - Brooklyn.
